2016-2017: “A Musical Year”

Week Eleven

Here is our latest video from our fun composing workbook for piano by Andrea and Trevor Dow called, “Brave Sage and the Magical Motives.”  “Fox, Move Those Rocks” was a little more challenging than the previous pieces but these guys pull it off pretty well.  Enjoy watching!

A very fun part of our week was beginning to play Christmas music!  Many students received new Christmas books and all chose pieces to begin learning.  Older students also worked on lead sheets using well-known Christmas carols.  It was so exciting to hear Christmas music again!

Another big part of our week here in the studio was using our new poster, “What’s New in My Musical Mind.”  Before leaving for the day, students write down one thing they learned in their lesson. Some students found this activity to be easy and others had a more difficult time with it. All, however, benefited from having to think about it and come up with an answer. It was a good way to recap the lesson as well as giving the students something to say when their parents ask, “What did you do in your piano lesson today?” Awesome!
